Drumroll, please… as of today we officially have a working dishwasher and disposal! Almost exactly 7 yrs. ago we closed on our house and said the first thing we would do is put in a dishwasher – ha! The contractors started last Tuesday and when we got home, this is what our kitchen looked like.
It was like Christmas! We were blown away by how much a few guys that knew what they were doing could accomplish in 1 day. The cabinets, countertop, sink and hardware had all been installed. On Thursday, an electrician wired the dishwasher, disposal and added a plug behind the stove.
Here you can see a close-up of the beautiful new cabinets and drawers that don’t leave sawdust on all our dishes underneath. Our contractor suggested adding the 4-drawer unit which we would have never thought of. We loved the idea since otherwise we would have only had 2 1/2 drawers. The stainless steal sink also helps add that modern, updated look we are going for.
This is what it looked like this morning after everything was completely done. Sometimes I just stand in the middle of the kitchen and stare at that beautiful dishwasher. We took the cabinet doors and drawer faces off this weekend planning to paint them, but the high humidity thwarted our plans.
Ben did do a major cleaning of our old top cabinet doors using mild soap and a pressure washer. They’ve been sitting in our attic for several years since I had the bright idea to have open shelving, so they needed it! We decided that cabinet painting needs to be an all-day event and plan on knocking it out this weekend. I’m secretly hoping to paint the walls/ceiling/trim this week, but we’ll see.
So what do you all think about our progress so far? We are more than a little intimidated about painting the cabinets without a sprayer, so any advice or YouTube video links you all have would be greatly appreciated!
