End of an Era

One of my bad habits favorite things to do is browse Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for furniture. Ben has officially banned buying any more furniture before the big move, but I somehow found a loophole by replacing furniture.
This has been our hand-me-down dining set since we moved to Memphis. Both my parents and grandparents have used this as their kitchen table over the years. When I saw on FB that a friend of mine was selling a beautiful dining set with a leaf and 6 chairs for a great price, I jumped on it!
I love how it looks in the space and am super excited to be able to seat 6 people if needed. In our little house, it will probably stay like this (leafless with 4 chairs).
I was worried about it being too big for the space, but the height and shape (rectangle vs. circle) actually make it look bigger! I also worried about the potential of chopping our guests heads off with the pub-height table and non-flush ceiling fan combo, but all heads will stay intact.
I’m most excited about reupholstering these chair seats with a fun material to put my own stamp of style on it. I’m hoping my dad will help me with this.
Our poor old dining set got pushed to the wayside like a red-headed-step-child, but I’m currently trying to find him a new home.
I feel a little more like a grown-up now after purchasing our own modern dining set (even though it was secondhand since that’s our preference anyway). Now, if only we could save up to buy a car that isn’t a family hand-me-down. Baby steps.

Be assured that we will be running around like chickens with our heads cut off the next couple of days for the big kitchen reveal. I’m just hoping that there isn’t a repeat Man vs. Wood fight when Ben rehangs the cabinet doors. Either way, you know I’ll report all the details – the good, the bad and the ugly!

  1. I love it!! I can’t tell…is it taller than the other table? I love it in the space and the overall look of it. :)

  2. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I’m guessing, respectively, end of the project, several trips to home depot, ben’s mouth?

  3. LOVE the new table! It looks GREAT!!!!
